To repair this problem, you may first use your Windows installation disc to perform a setup repair operation. Boot from your Windows installation disc and then choose Setup Repair Option, after that, follow the wizard to complete.

I do have a thumb drive with a windows installation because i originally installed a clean version of Windows on the SSD but then cleared it and cloned my HDD onto it. How do i get windows to boot again? Preferably from the SSD but at this point any boot will do. Windows 8.1 will not boot after deleting recovery partition. I was trying to use Windows System Image Backup to clone a laptop with a broken screen to a new one of the same model. The process wasn't working (sorry I don't recall specifically why) and I was led to believe that the Recovery partition was the issue. Boot off Windows 8.1 install cd. Go into trouble shooting, and choose the console / command line. Change directory to (B) (For me it was E: at this time) and rebuild your BCD: e: bootrec /rebuildbcd. If it asks to add to the boot menu, say yes. Shut down, plug (A) in. In BIOS make sure the SSD is set to boot first. Windows now boots off the SSD .
Medium - Resolve cloned drive won't boot issue due to MBR and GPT conflict. Medium - Resolve cloned SSD won't boot issue due to disk driver issue on the source computer. Using EaseUS Disk Copy to restart your disk cloning procedure is the most effective and easiest way to help you solve this issue. Clone boot disk of Alpha to new drive. Install cloned disk into Computer Beta. Beta boots using registry of Alpha, which has still assigned the not-C letter to the cloned drive. Computer tries and read off C, but it's assigned not-C. Clean SSD and redo cloning. Use Macrium Reflect instead. Should be much faster, when not using USB. Note - this is important. After cloning is done - for first boot from cloned drive.
